Old Town and Lake Promenade
From 1996 to 199, the Japanese artist, Tadashi Kawamata (born 1953), created "Work in Progress" - a wooden pathway through Zug, in a joint project with the Art Gallery.
Five structures trace the path from the Art Gallery through the old town and along the lake promenade to the nature reserve. The wooden installations have a use and many visitors do not even realise they are works of art: footpaths with an elasticated underlay (Brüggli) or comfortable seats (Landsgemeinde Square): changing cubicles and screens for the lake-side swimming complex. With the help of a team of unemployed men and soldiers from the Swiss army, Kawamata built an unusual landing stage for the Yellow boat.
The sensitivity of his objects can be eye-openers; they can sharpen one's awareness and trigger a change of sentiment.
