Station Square

Ilya and Emilia Kabakov (Ukraine/USA) created an unusual drinking fountain out of Carrara marble especially for the Station Square. Have you noticed that what at first seems to be an abstract shape is in fact a male torso?
Is it a kind-of Manneken-Pis fountain in the guise of modern sculpture, made out of a material used even by Michelangelo? Or is it an allusion to the scandalous urinal by the revolutionary artist, Marcel Duchamp? Or is it just a kitschy drinking fountain, such as you find in lots of railway stations and towns?
Kabakov's sculpture seeks a relationship with man and stands small in this large space almost to represent him - and with a little fantasy one can see the allegory.
